Florida is filled with wonders and beauty from beaches to rivers all the way to clear watered springs such as the Weeki Wachee Springs in Weeki Wachee, FL. Every place you go to visit has some earthly beauty to be explored and admired. This is one of the many spots here in Florida. I had the pleasure of going paddleboarding and kayaking with my sister-in-law Kaylen. We decided to have a girls day out on the Weeki Wachee Spring and just enjoy a nice and relaxing day out in the clear water with the manatees and fishes. It couldn't of been a better day to just lay back on your board and relax while cruising through the spring.
If you haven't been to the Weeki Wachee Spring you have gots to go. Don't miss out. Kaylen and I parked over at Rodger's Park and unloaded our gear there. Loaded up on our kayak and paddle board and started cruising. The first thing we saw was a beautiful manatee. Sadly I couldn't get a picture of it as we were passing a few people on their kayaks and paddle boards as well as a small boat. We kept on going up stream like going towards the Weeki Wachee Park. A little later we stopped at this beautiful and clear spot. I saw this branch and just had to get a picture on it and dive off of it. It was easier said then done though. The branch was very unstable and I fell off the first time. It wasn't to high but yet very fun.
After swimming for a little bit we saw some shells and started collecting a few. Sadly I lost my shell later in our adventure when my paddleboard flipped. haha and no I wasn't the one on it. We found some beautiful shells and got to see some fishes and even a dragon fly. The dragonfly is blue and even played around with us for a little bit. As we were eating our sandwiches it just kept landing on Kaylen's hand of on my arm and stared at us. We then continued our way up stream to our next stop. A tall tree branch over the spring where I insisted we jumped off of. Anything to enjoy life a little right?!
The Weeki Wachee had so many different places to stop at to swim and swing off the rope from so we kept on stopping several times. It was a beautiful day with clear waters no shade from all the trees. Not too hot and the water was perfect and refreshing. As we headed up stream we stopped at another tree that was much higher and jumped off of it as well as another broken down tree that was perfect to dive off of as well. Can you tell we like to jump off of trees? We then decided to turn around and let the current take us. We just tied the paddle board and the kayak together and chilled the whole way back and had some well needed girl talk. Now here's the deets (details) on what to bring and how to get ready for your adventure trip at the Weeki Wachee Spring.
If you don't have anything to paddle down the river with don't worry. There's three places on Weeki Wachee to rent paddle boards, kayaks, and canoes from. Prices vary depending on where you go. There's The Kayak Shack and The Paddling Adventures along with a few other places to go to. If you are planning to rent I highly recommend that you make reservations beforehand to make sure you don't miss out.
If you are planning to make this an all day trip make sure to bring a small cooler with water and food. Trust me that after all the swimming and paddling, you're tummy will start to growl with hunger. No alcohol or open containers are allowed on the spring so we took our water in our own personal water bottles. I took my Hydroflask to make sure that my water stayed nice and cold. It truly works. My water still had ice by the time we got back to the car. (Get yours here)
Don't forget to pack yourself a GoPro!!! I used my GoPro Hero 3 and got some very amazing shots and memories to last us now a lifetime. (Get yours here)
I used a Surftech paddle board which I personally own. Love love love my board. My sister in law used her personally owned kayak. Don't miss out on this very awesome adventure. You won't regret it.
