Living on an island with a year round summer is a little different then the regular fall days at the mainland. I love fall. Just seeing the trees change colors, decorating in fall decor, and making pumpkin bags out of the leaves that were all over the yard were some of my favorite things to do. Before getting stationed here on Oahu we were stationed up at Ft. Campbell and fall was pretty fun there. My daughter would beg me to go outside to make the orange pumpkin bags and play with all the leaves. My dogs would run through all the leaves and play in them like if it was the greatest thing in the world. Good memories I must say.
One of my favorite things about fall is pumpkins. Pumpkin decor, pumpkin spice latte, pumpkin bags, pumpkin faces, pumpkin everything... especially PUMPKIN PIE, my favorite, with a little whip cream on top. Delicious. Just thinking about it is making me hungry.
I remember on Bella's first fall, before my husband deployed, we bought some foam pumpkins and stickers and decorated them. I still have them saved with all my pumpkin decor. She wasn't even one yet so I figured that was the best I could do with an 8 month old but she had fun.
On her second fall she went crazy with filling up orange pumpkin bags full of leaves. Every time we went to the store she asked for new bags. She just loved to play with them and fill them up. Her little self tried to carry them up the hill to our front yard and she didn't want anyone to help her carry it. Kids! Fall was a fun time for us.
There's tons of fun things to do during the fall but the most amazing is seeing nature change around you. All the colors changing from green to orange. The world getting ready for the cold. Seeing the animals searching for their food and getting ready for the winter that's soon to come. It was one of my favorite things to do. Behind my home in Tennessee there is this huge field and I remember seeing turkeys, deer, and all sorts of birds and animals and watching them scavenge and hunt, getting ready for. I used to hear the owls sing every night and the coyotes howling as if it was a choir. It was pretty exciting. I love watching nature change around me and see how everything works.
Halloween would be next on my list. I love to see all the kids all dressed up and going around the neighborhood trick or treating. We used to do a safe trick or treating Halloween even that was always held at downtown Clarksville, TN. It was called Fright on Franklin Street. They had tons of competition, prizes, and goodies. Bella always loved it. Isa never had the chance to attend as we moved to Hawaii shortly after she was born but we had our little trick or treat around the communities here on the base. Getting them dressed up was my favorite. They always seemed so excited about it even at any age.
After eating a bunch of candy, I would have to say that Thanksgiving was my fattest yet favorite day of the year. Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve. Those are my two fat days where I pig out and eat everything I want guilt free. I mean who doesn't like to eat delicious food and tons of it, including that delicious pumpkin pie. Our last Thanksgiving we were in the transition of moving and this year my husband will be out in training on the mainland but I am hoping to make the best of it regardless and maybe doing a Thanksgiving before he leaves. If when he comes back I'm a few pounds bigger at least I have an excuse.
The Thanksgiving before last we spent it with family. It was a pretty awesome Thanksgiving saying that we had two of them. All the food, the pie, the flan, the more food. Let's just say I pigged out and didn't feel bad about it. Everything was amazing but the only part missing was me cooking. I love cooking for Thanksgiving and I haven't cooked for a few years now. I love to prep the turkey and season it a day or two before and then waking up early to put it to cook. The amazing turkey smell. Awe! Deliciousness all over the house. I feel great when making a huge meal for my family and guests. I usually make a huge potato salad like my mom's, yellow rice with gandules (pigeon peas), pumpkin pie, flan, stuffing, salad, rolls, and anything else I get around to making before dinner time. Let's just say I don't eat all day just so I can eat all I can for dinner. It's like my day of heaven.
These are the things I love about fall. I hope you enjoy my blog. Don't forget to save us to stay posted on new blog posts and subscribe to our newsletter. Mahalo!
